The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) in conjunction with the South Dakota Highway Patrol (SDHP) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will hold the 2nd of two planned open house style public meetings to discuss and receive public input on a corridor study for a portion of US Highway 12 (US12) between Ipswich, SD and Brown County Highway 12WA west of Aberdeen.

SDDOT has developed a detailed corridor level analysis of potential safety, operational and capacity improvements along US 12 between Aberdeen and Ipswich. Several severe crashes have occurred within the study area over the past five years and the corridor is experiencing an increase in heavy vehicle traffic due to development and expansion of agricultural processing and storage facilities along the corridor.  The US 12 Corridor Study has determined potential roadway improvements which will accommodate existing and future traffic patterns anticipated along the corridor. The US 12 Corridor Study developed and evaluated potential improvements to improve capacity, reduce crashes and improve access management.  This second public meeting in the study process is to inform residents and interested persons of the study’s recommendations and gather input relating to potential improvement along the US 12 Corridor.

A public input meeting and open house will run from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, with a short presentation at 6:00 pm.  Staff from SDDOT, SDHP and their consultant will be available discuss the US12 Corridor Study.

All persons interested in this corridor are invited to attend this meeting to share your views and concerns. Public and written comments will be taken as part of the public input meeting specific to the US12 Corridor Study. Written public comment will be accepted through February 9th, 2017. Written comments should be sent to the attention of KLJ, Attn: US12 Corridor Study, 728 East Beaton Drive, Suite 101, West Fargo, ND, 58078.
